I’m a Senior Lecturer in Translation Studies at Cardiff University, and the Director of the MA Translation. I teach across a wide range of modules at undergraduate and postgraduate levels, including sessions on translation technology, translation ethics, and French translation. I also have considerable experience in freelance translation (working from French and Italian into English) as well as editing and proofreading.

As a researcher, I am interested in exploring questions of ethics and sustainability in the translation industry and have written widely on topics including codes of ethics, status, pay, and working conditions. I work closely with people across the UK translation industry and have presented my work at numerous international conferences, universities, and events.

For me, translation represents both a passion and a profession. I completed a PhD thesis in Translation Studies in 2018 and started teaching in the discipline straight away, mentoring a new generation of translators. I also hold a BA in French and Italian and an MA in Translation Studies.

I originally launched JALTranslation in 2013, and have worked with an array of global brands and institutions as a translator and proofreader. Though I don’t do much translation work these days, I’m always open to new collaborations. To this day, I’m still a translation fanatic.

Aside from being a huge sports fan (particularly football), I developed my key specialism of sports translation over the course of several years working in the field. Personal interest and more recent opportunities have also allowed me to gain in-depth experience of academic, social media, and marketing translation.
